Just a question and not sure if anyone has had it happen or if it is even related. Three days ago I started taking Braggs ACV 2 tablespoons 3 times a day in a huge glass of water. On the second day on wakining I was very stiff and my joints ached And even now I feel the same way. I did not work out, I am not sick. Is this just me or has anyone else encountered this odd symptom? I had tried ACV for GERD and some energy as I heard it could help both. I also heard it helps arthritis, but it seems like I'm having the opposite effect. Any suggestions would be helpful.

My guess is you get worse before you get better. Why? Because it is pulling away the bad stuff from the joints and bringing into the bloodstream which then gets excreted. Just a guess but I think I'm right. Don't stop, keep doing it.

You might be having that die off effect or your body is detoxing .. I know when I oil pull I feel like I get some sort of flu.... I never had that with ACV but I do eat a lot of organic and drink alkaline water and use lemons so maybe I am not that toxic.. Have you tried the PH strips to check your urine and to check how alkaline or acidic you are?

Wodell333, my guess is that you are taking too much.

Hello Wodel333,

I agree with both suggestions given so far. You may be having these symptoms from detoxing effects, on the other hand you may be taking too much. The only time I've ever taken six tablespoons in a day was to get rid of gall stones.

I fight candida and actually have lyme manifested as Rheumatoid Arthiritis. It seems like ACV is a remedy that covers so much. I am right now using it get my Fall allergies under control, which are causing a lot of mucus and coughing and lack of oxygen. The dose I was given to take each time is 1 TBS 4 times daily. Your dose seems very high. You have to dilute even 1 TBS because it is do acidic. I also just read that it can take magnesium and potassium from your body. That could cause problems with arthritis if you don't boost your magnesium. Magnesium is necessary to make calcium balance and absorb.

Hi, I just started drinking ACV with some lemon juice and dried ginger (day 2). I have been feeling bloated and was wondering if that will go away with time? Is there any other things that might happen to a new user that would be helpful to know?

Erin, try reducing the amount of ACV and mixing in some baking soda. It'll fizz.

HI, I have been dealing with constipation & hemorrorids all my life, I'm 38 years old. Recently had a colonoscopy and all was clear with no issues.

Doctor said add water & more natural fibers and 1 teaspoon of metamucil to your diet which I did. It helped my constipation but the side effects were brutal extremely gassy and sensation to go all the time but nothing would come out just the sensation was there. it was horrible

So I stopped taking natural fiber & metamucil. I heard apple cider vinegar was a natural remedy for this so I started having it for 8 days. The first 2 days I had 1 or tablespoons raw and straight not diluted in anything. After that I had 1 tablespoon of Apple Cider Vinegar with 1 tablespoon of honey in 1 glass of room temperature water first think in the morning. It def helped my constipation making me go daily, but on the 7 day of drinking this I woke up nauseous and stayed like that the whole morning. Then afternoon developed a bitter saliva taste in my mouth. I stopped the APC and the next day I was fine. Decided to take it every other day. So waited 1 day and took it the day after, and the next day I had nausesous and bitter saliva which has lasted for 3 days now.

My questions are as follow:

- Is the nauseousness and bitter saliva a side effect of the ACV?

- If so, is this permanent side effect or will it go away? The reason I'm asking I had the ACV on Saturday and today is Tuesday and still dealing with the bitterness saliva

Please advise. Thanks in advance.

Mily75: I make 1 gallon daily of a home brewed ferment similar to ACV and have not had any side effects. Detox reactions can occur anywhere in the body. The cells of a weakened immune system can miscommunicate causing allergic reactions. Because 70% of the immune system is the digestive system where the problems seem to be maybe strengthening this area would be a good idea. There are many favorable reviews on amazon for rutin for hemorrhoids. At the same place you can get the best remedy for improving the immune system, a 17 mushroom blend extract from Washington. For constipation take black chia seeds. These are very high in soluable fiber and have many favorable reviews for the colon. For the bitter taste in mouth google lifestyle karma bitter taste in mouth. For nutritional support watch raw food videos.

Thanks for the reply. I will follow up your advise for the chia seeds and costipation. However, what i want to hear from was are there anyone else out there that experienced nausea and bitter saliva or taste in mouth after 1 week of drinking apple cider vinegar. I'm trying to validate if this is the culprit for the symptoms i'm experiencing. Thanks.

Hi Mily75, I had the bitter, metallic taste in my mouth a while back. I googled everything I had been eating and using...and came up with my toothpaste being the cause. I had been using Sensodyne Pronamel at the time, and there are many things written about it causing a metal, bitter taste on the web. I stopped using it, and the taste went away fairly fast (a day or two if I remember correctly). Anyway, you might want to google your toothpaste and mouthwash brands along with "bitter taste" or "metallic taste" and see if there is any info on the web. Even if you have been using the same product for years, it can start giving you trouble at any time....sometimes the manufacturer will change ingredients, etc also. just another thought, something else to look at. Good luck, I know how icky that taste / feeling is!

I know this is coming quite late, but better late than never, eh?! I tried Edgar Cayce's exercises for hemorrhoids; I did follow them to the T, and I mean three(3) times a day, one(1) hour after breakfast, lunch, and dinner. I did this for about two months: That was all that was needed, and it is been already a few years since then! Hemorrhoids are now things of the past. If a bit comes out by any chance, I just push it in. I also drink tons of water, though. Good luck!

Better But With Side Effects

I've been taking Apple cider vinegar early mornings with water and once in the middle of the day and then before I sleep. My main purpose has been to detox with it. I feel it is great but today I've been feeling a lot of heart burning. Is it possible that ACV can cause stomach ulcers? Should I continue taking this on an empty stomach in the mornings or stop with that? I've changed my diet and have a lot of yogurt and fruits in my diet now. Hardly any fried foods. What can be the reason? Should I get an H pylori test done? Thanks!

Side Effect:

I started drinking ACV in larger doses (6T/day in tons of water) after developing a nasty bladder infection.. It worked wonders on reducing the infection (I was happy I still went to the doctor to get antibiotics! ), but my joint pain/discomfort skyrocketed and would worsen the more ACV I drank. It disrupted my sleep unfortunately, which doesn't help w/ fighting infections. (I get the same kind of joint discomfort when I am sick with the flu and when I eat nightshade vegetables.)

I used to be a strict ACV follower, as it helped reduce my body fat and increased my energy (lost 20 lbs w/o trying! ), but then I noticed that it worsened a scalp condition, facial acne, and tonsil stones/halitosis. I was using an organic, unfiltered, unpasturized, popular gold labled brand of ACV.

Now that I am drinking the ACV again, while it is helping reduce the UTI/bladder infection, the joint pain increased and the scalp flared up too. I get similar effect when I drink Kombucha and unfiltered beer.. I consider the side effects to be too burdensome to bear as a "detox", and so cut out the ACV.

However, I am wondering, could the Mother and yeasts be part of why I experience side effects? Has anyone who's reacted to motherized-ACV experimented with organic, unfiltered (or not), PASTEURIZED ACV to reduce their reactions?

I am a big fan of probiotics and enzymes and such, but am not worried of loosing those health properties by using pasturized ACV as I can find those in other foods. I think that the major benefits of ACV are the acetic and malic acids, mineral content, and phytochemicals, all which are unaffected by pasteurization.

I appreciate any thoughtful responses!

Your comments about adverse side effects of ACV are similar to my experiences. I started taking 1 Tsp ACV in 8 oz. Hot water daily for arthritis pains about 2 wks go. I now have acne on my chin that seems to be spreading. I've also had stomach bloating and maybe a little weight gain. God help us.

Hello, I started taking a spoon of Apple Cider Vinegar every morning, when I heard that it aids digestion and alkalines the system.

However, since I started I have been waking up with burning eyes and my tounge and mouth feel very acidic every in the mornings. I also experience worsening pains in my joints (hand) that seem to get worse every day.

Could the Apple cider have made me more acidic? Please advise. Thank you.

To Marie from London. You are supposed to take two tablespoon of ACV in a glass with 1/4 tsp. of baking soda mixed in and let it fizz off. Then you can mix some water or flavored water if you like up to a full glass. No wonder you are so acidic.

Initially, I had used ACV with mother and got good results with a chronically blocked nose and warts. However, I find that any internal use nowadays, even the lowest recommended dose, triggers an aggravation of my barely dormant facial dermatitis and urticaria. Odema and melasma also occurs. I was such a fan of ACV that I tested this in several ways with long breaks in between. It definitely ACV that causes the aggravation. Just thought I'd pass on this feedback.

Greetings, I would like to ask a question - I commenced taking 2 teas. ACV in water with honey, each morning, approx 1 year ago. As time has passed I now get horrible indigestion & acid reflux, burning right up to base of my throat. Particularly at night when I lay down.

The Dr. put me on medication for 30 days, which settled it down. Now, without medication it is starting up again. I had my gallbladder out 18 yrs ago.

I loved taking ACV, however, am now wondering if it actually has caused this problem? Rather reluctant to commence again. Would really appreciate advise.

Kind Regards.

Hmm, just thinking it could be something else you are eating or drinking, dairy or meat maybe? ACV is actually a very common cure for Acid Reflux. Also you could try mixing about 1/4tsp of baking soda in 6-8oz of filtered water and sipping that when your having discomfort :) Good luck

Better But With Side Effects

When I take apple cider vinegar daily I break out with painful herpes. I finally figured the ACV was the only thing I was doing different. I wondered if anyone else has had this experience? At first I thought it was the effect brought on by cleansing my body but the pain was too much so I stopped the ACV. If this is the virus being attacked I want to continue but I need to know if anyone else has had this experience. I do want to take ACV for all the good things it has done for me. But I was miserable. Thanks and I hope to gt some feedback.

TO the girl who gets herpes side effects upon taking apple cider vinegar. When I started taking ACV to cleanse my body, I too got a tiny bump in the corner of my lips and knew it was herpes. Had this once or twice before. I immediately put rubbing alcohol on it and all over the rest of my lips to protect them. The alcohol starts to KILL the herpes as it tries to grow! If you don't believe me, TRY IT! IT WORKS! The doctors don't want you to know this because they won't make any money off of you if you cure yourself! Right! Okay, please use a dab of rubbing alcohol on the bump as soon as you have THAT feeling on your lip. Keep applying it as soon as you get that feeling and I promise, it won't grow! Its amazing, I just experimented with rubbing alcohol one day and it worked. Hope you get this soon. By the way, I have been cleansing with Apple cider vinegar with the mother in it for a month. Add one tsp or more of the vinegar to two cups of water. I drink glasses of this all day. If you feel that darn thing on your lip just zap it fast. Thank you God for rubbing alcohol! Sincerely!!! :)!

Hi! I am new to the site but I am really enjoying it here! I have just started the ACV and so far have only taken it 2x in 24 hrs. I am taking 2 tsp in 8oz cranberry juice. I already have a canker sore on the back of my tongue. I know this is common but should I cut back on the ACV or maybe the cranberry is too much acid? Just wondering the cause and if anyone else has had the same issue and solved the problem.

Thank you!! Yoj

Better But With Side Effects

YEA BUT WITH SIDE EFFECTS: Thinking I was doing everything right for the last few years, switching to non-fluoride toothpaste and consuming ACV (sometimes 3x day but last few months 1x week), never drank sodas, even as a child, healthy diet with little processed food - I've been suffering toothache and went to the dentist a couple of days ago where he announced I had a LOT of work needing doing in my mouth. I was horrified but have been thinking perhaps I shouldn't have switched from fluoride to non-fluoride, did the ACV strip my teeth and cause cavities??? Well I think yes to both of these but it's done now so I'm trying black walnut although can only get them in gel capsules (not as good perhaps?), liquid silica, cod liver oil, fish oil etc - he's also put me on anti-biotics for the first time in I don't know how many years but will take to kill off any pain and give me respite till next appt.

Anyway, if I'd known to drink water and not brush my teeth straight after drinking ACV (or have it through a straw), I would have possibly avoided all this drama. I'm feeling really down about it as I don't want to lose any more teeth. I'm 47 and in otherwise good health. So just a warning to those consuming the good old apple cider vinegar - drink through a straw, have a glass of water straight after and DON'T brush your teeth straight away as this brushes the enamel off as the ACV has already attacked it!!

I am wondering if anyone out there can give me some feedback. Here is my story (I'll try to keep it brief): In June, 2011 I started losing my voice and have experienced various stages of hoarseness ever since. It is Feb. 27, 2012 as I write this. I went to an ENT physician, who examined my throat/vocal cords (not a pleasant experience) and he told me my vocal cords were "red and puffy, " and he believed the cause was that I was experiencing "Silent Acid Reflux" (i. e. , I don't have heartburn, but he said that stomach acid was traveling up my esophagus and burning my vocal cords). I also have noticed an off-and-on tangy taste in my mouth, plus often smell what I can only describe as "cigarette smoke" right after I eat -- but of course no one is smoking around me. Very weird. I thought that possibly I was smelling my own stomach acid churning around in my stomach.

So, I did my own research on the Internet and discovered all sorts of rave reviews about apple cider vinegar being a wonderful cure for acid reflux (even though, according to the ENT doc, mine was "silent. ") Since mid-January of 2012 I have religiously been drinking _____'s ACV (one tablespoon in a glass of filtered water) every day. So far I have not noticed any changes, but then again, I don't expect my hoarseness to go away immediately. The ENT doc said it takes several months for the "burned" vocal cords to get back to normal. (By the way, the ENT doc told me to start taking Prilosec -- but I was most reluctant to do this, as I experienced a side-effect of an irregular heartbeat about six years ago when I DID have heartburn -- so I stopped taking it and my heartbeat returned to normal). So, I did not do as he said, and did not start on the Prilosec. BUT... I found ACV, and was most hopeful this would work.

Today I went to a gastroenterologist to confirm (or not) what the ENT doc said he thought was my problem. I was "knocked out" and had an endoscopy of my stomach. The preliminary report (until the biopsy samples come back from the lab) is I have a hiatal hernia -- and this means that indeed stomach acid COULD get through my LES sphincter to travel up my esophagus and singe my vocal cords. However, the gastro doc said my esophagus had NO burns, and he was not sure yet that stomach acid was the culprit. BUT... He showed me photos of my stomach, and parts of my stomach were red/inflamed (many patches of red color). He asked me if I was taking lots of aspirin, and I told him "no" -- only one or two per week (neck pain), and he said the aspirin was probably not the cause for all the red patches in my stomach. So I started wondering: could apple cider vinegar POSSIBLY have a side-effect of causing inflammation in the stomach? I CANNOT for the life of me think of any other reason. I eat a healthy diet -- zero spicy foods, no red meat, no alcohol or coffee.

And so, if ANYone out there has any feedback/ideas/experience if ACV ever caused inflammation in their stomach lining, please get back to me here. At this point I am going to stop drinking the ACV until I can figure this thing out. Many thanks.

God bless you all, "Laz"

My mother-in-law suffered with your symptoms. For Christmas, her family gave her the book "Wheat Belly. " She began implementing the way of eating suggested and her acid reflux, hernia, hoarness in her voice have all gone away. She is amazed at what has happened. She's lost 20 lbs in a month, and, her wheat belly is going down. Now, I'll tell you, this is a women who has had several operations and probes on and into her stomach and guts. She even had her gallbladder and appendix removed because doctors thought these could be causing her stomach ailments. One, simple change - removing grains and milk from her diet - has brought a miracle into her life and her health. Best of luck to you.
